The HREIT Delegation visited various detention centers in Artvin within the scope of the National Prevention Mechanism mandate.

The delegation made examinations in the detention centers of the Artvin Provincial Police Department and the Artvin Closed Penitentiary Institution. Information was obtained from the authorities of the institutions and the conditions of detention centers were examined on-site.

In both visits, “The physical conditions of the institutions, the situation of the groups with special needs in the centers, the treatment of detainees, health services and the measures taken for the Covid-19 pandemic and vaccination studies, nutritional conditions, social activities, daily life and communication with the external world” were examined in the context of international standards and; one-on-one interviews were held with people deprived of their liberty.

As a result of the visits, reports containing the assessments and recommendations regarding the examinations and interviews will be prepared and shared with the relevant institutions and the public.
