Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç made contacts in Geneva as part of the General Assembly of the Global Alliance of the National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).


Chairman Prof.Dr. Muharrem Kılıç and the accompanying delegation held a meeting with Universal Rights Group Executive Manager Marc Limon and Expert Marie Eve Boyer as part of their Geneva contacts. During the meeting, information was given on the mandate of our Institution, and potential cooperation opportunities in monitoring the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) recommendations were discussed.


Within the scope of the contacts related to the program, the General Assembly of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) was attended. At the meeting, the projects carried out by ENNHRI in 2022, the 5-year Strategic Plan, the financial report and the annual report were discussed.

Following the program, a meeting was held with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Field Operations and Technical Cooperation Division (FOTCD). In the meeting where the experiences of the earthquake disaster in our country were shared, views were exchanged on access to health services, the right to shelter and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.

On the second day of the program, the delegation attended the General Assembly of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). At the meeting, backslidings in human rights in parallel with the developments in the world since the beginning of the Covid-19 process in 2020 was emphasized. At the meeting, which was attended by representatives from Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and American networks, it was stated that the poverty index, which had been declining for many years, started to rise again in 2022 for the first time, and it was emphasized that issues such as environmental degradation and discrimination based on artificial intelligence were priority issues that required global cooperation. In the continuation of the meeting, the national preventive mechanisms of the countries came together in groups to share information and experience on good practice examples, difficulties encountered, challenges and oppurtunities. In the said meetings, information was given on the activities of our Institution within the scope of the national preventive mechanism.


As part of their Geneva contacts, our delegation had a meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Türkiye to the United Nations, Ambassador Güven Begeç. During the meeting, the earthquake disaster that hit our country, and the studies carried out by Türkiye in the international arena in the fields of human rights and humanitarian diplomacy were discussed.


On the last day of the program, the GANHRI Annual Meeting was attended. At the meeting, the requirements such as the continuation of the support for the capacity building of national human rights and providing the necessary legal and technical support in the accreditation process of the countries were discussed. In addition, meetings were held with representatives of many countries within the scope of the meeting, information was given on the earthquake disaster that took place in our country and cooperation opportunities were discussed. Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç gave an interview for the video shoot to be prepared by GANHRI within the scope of the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles as well.
