Our delegation, consisting of Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç and Assistant Experts on Human Rights and Equality Gülsün Uludağ Abay, Rabia Keleş and Merve Tekin, conducted a study visit to the Danish Institute for Human Rights in order to share experiences, good practices and knowledge management with peer institutions.
During the study visit, the focus was on four primary thematic areas, which are composed on national division works carry out throughout the country, sharing of accreditation process experiences, the role of national human rights institutions that have a key role in the Sustainable Development Goals, and business and human rights.
In the first session, The Danish Institute for Human Rights National Director of National Division Maria Ventegodt introduced general information about the Institute and gave a piece of information about the activities carried out in combating discrimination, children’s rights and disability rights within the scope of the principle of equal treatment.
In the second session, Adviser on Legal Department Emilie Thage endorsed the Institute’s mandates in the national division and its work in the international fields. Hereafter, our Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç shared the experiences of our Institution, which recently gained international accreditation status at the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). Moreover, the Danish Institute for Human Rights, which is preparing for an accreditation review for the upcoming year, addressed the issue of accreditation experiences in 2012 and 2018 during the session.
In the third session, Carol Rask, Chief Adviser on Human Rights and Development, made a detailed presentation about the duties that national human rights institutions undertake within the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Institute’s work in this field and its activities in the field of human rights education.
In the last session, Department Director on Human Rights and Business Elin Wrzoncki and Senior Adviser on Human Rights and Business Daniel Morris made a presentation about the conceptual framework that determines the thematic area of “Business and Human Rights”, the human rights responsibilities of transnational commercial corporations within the scope of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the processes of making national action plans and national human rights institutions and activities of the Institute in this field.
In the wrap-up attended by the Executive Director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights Louise Holck, our Institution’s experiences on all thematic topics were shared and mutual cooperation opportunities between Institutions were discussed.
Within the scope of the visit to Denmark, our Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç and his delegation paid a visit to Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Copenhagen Rıza Hakan Tekin. At the meeting, information was given about the activities of our Institution. In addition, latest developments regarding the international human rights agenda were discussed.
