The United Nations (UN) General Assembly designated November 25 as "The  International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women" in order to address the human rights violation dimension of the violence against woman and to bring attention to the phenomenon of violence against women globally.

Violence against women causes women to suffer physical, psychological, social, and economic harm and damage to their dignity. However, violence against women and girls persist to be a prevalent problem. According to the UN data, one in every three women are subjected different types of violence on a global scale. Women can be subjected to various forms of violence in all areas of life, especially in their homes, workplaces and public spaces. Wars and internal conflicts in the various regions of the world render women and girls more vulnerable against violence and causes their fundamental human rights to be violated.

Even during today, which is designated as The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the most severe examples of violence against women continue to occur. As a result of the attacks Israel launched against the people of Gaza on 7 October 2023 in violation of the international human rights acquis and norms of the humanitarian law, violations of women's dignity and rights have reached horrible levels and thousands of women have become victims of crimes against humanity.

World Health Organization shared that in Gaza, maternal and child health services cannot be provided due to damage to health facilities, mass displacement, collapse of water and electricity infrastructures, as well as limited access to food and medicine, that there are an estimated 50,000 pregnant women in the region, approximately 180 births occur every day and that the maternal mortality rates will increase due to lack of medical care and the psychological effects of the attacks lead to stillbirths or premature births.

In the General recommendation No. 30 of Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women ,it was emphasized thatright of women should be protected in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law and criminal law, women under occupation should be protected against all forms of violence, pregnant women and new mothers should be granted the opportunity of free passage and safety zones should be established for the protection of mothers of children under 7 years of age.” Nevertheless, none of the rights mentioned were secured for women left in the middle of the attacks in Gaza were provided with these rights and international humanitarian law is almost ignored.

Our Institution, main mission of which is to protect the right to equal treatment of persons on the basis of human dignity and prevention of discrimination in exercising the legally acknowledged rights and freedoms, celebrates November 25 The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women hoping for a world where violence against women is eliminated and invites all institutional actors to play an active role against human rights violations against women on the occasion of The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
