Social justice is a principle founded on the basis that everyone should fairly enjoy social, cultural, economic and political rights. With the ideal of social justice, it is aimed to create equal opportunities for everyone by getting rid of the inequalities caused by problems such as poverty, money, equality, unemployment, income inequality, war and the inner world, migration and racism.

Every part of the society living in conditions befitting human dignity and developing and implementing international, regional and national policies in parallel with the principle of social justice in order to protect human rights is of importance. Within this framework, the United Nations General Assembly designated February 20th as “World Day of Social Justice” with its decision dated 26 November 2007 in order to embrace, implement and raise awareness on the principle of social justice.

Social justice also appears before us as a constitutional right. Among the fundamental principles stated in the Preamble of the Turkish Constitution, it is emphasized that every Turkish citizen are endowed with the right and power to benefit from the fundamental rights and freedoms in the Constitution in accordance with the requirements of “equality and social justice.” ​ Also, in Article 2 of the Constitution, it is emphasized that the State is vested with “social and legal principles.”

In an egalitarian social order where equal opportunities and rights can be provided to everyone, the welfare, peace and happiness of the societies improve. On this occasion, we wish for the strengthening of social justice in the world and our country and celebrate the World Day of Social Justice.
