A delegation of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, headed by Vice-chairman Ömer Faruk Dilgen, conducted an unannounced visit to the detention facilities of the Gelibolu District Gendarmerie Command on February 3 2026, within the scope of its duties as the National Preventive Mechanism. During the visit, necessary information and documents were first obtained from the competent authorities of the institution. The quality of treatment toward the persons deprived of their liberty and their accommodation conditions were examined in line with national and international normative frameworks. Based on the examinations conducted during the visit, a report containing the findings and recommendations will be prepared and shared with the relevant institutions and the public. Within the framework of the visit, the Vice-chairman paid courtesy visits to Doç. Dr. Ömer Toraman, Governor of Çanakkale, and Dr. Özkan Gürdoğan, Chief Public Prosecutor of Çanakkale.
