A delegation of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, headed by Board Member Dr. Ömer Çelen, conducted an unannounced visit to Geyve Open Penitentiary Institution on August 18, 2026, within the scope of its duties as the National Preventive Mechanism.

During the visit, necessary information and documents were first obtained from the competent authorities of the institution. The quality of treatment toward the persons deprived of their liberty and their accommodation conditions were examined in line with national and international normative frameworks. Based on the examinations conducted during the visit, a report containing the findings and recommendations will be prepared and shared with the relevant institutions and the public.

Board Member Çelen paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, Yusuf Alemdar and the Rector of Sakarya University, Hamza Al.
